A new report from The Information suggests that Google is interested in developing its own microprocessors and chips to help bring in more uniformity in the Android ecosystem. The big G had held discussions this fall with other chip vendors that it was interested in co-developing processors, though the name of these chip vendors remain unknown. Apple designs its own A-series of chipsets for the iPhone and iPad. Beside being a powerhouse, the chips have also been designed with iOS in mind which leads to them offering better better performance while consuming very little power....

Utilizing a navigation app, or, like in the Stone Age, a GPS unit, typically means starting your trip by tapping a few screens, inputting an address, and then getting on your way. Google’s looking to change that. The new feature is called “Driving Mode,” and it’s pretty spot-on. It was initially discovered by the fine folks over at Android Police, before the feature was being officially rolled out by Google, but then Venture Beat managed to get some hands-on time with the new feature, as it has begun to rollout to some Google Maps users....

Google today released the July 2016 Security Bulletin and has also made the factory images and OTA files available for its Nexus devices. The Security Bulletin details all the vulnerabilities that Google has patched in the latest build of Android 6.0.1 for its Nexus devices. Google updated Google Play Services to version 4.1, bringing a handful of new features to developers and Android users alike. The update is rolling out gradually to users. The biggest improvements in Play Services 4.1 is support for turn-based multiplayer. Developers can now build asynchronous games that support from between 2 to 8 players.
